Principal Job Objectives: |
Reporting to the senior Mine Geologist, this role is charged with providing the grade control function on site, and demands a sound understanding of the deposit geology and controls on grade, and how these drive the grade control process i.e. ore block design and dilution control. |
Duties & Responsibilities: |
- Design and supervise grade control drilling programmes to accurately delineate the ore body ahead of mining
- Ensure GC sample and mapping data is saved and stored in SQL database i.e. Datashed.
- Resolve geological data management issues with Database administrator
- Use grade control system to create grade control block model
- Mark-up and supervise ore extraction to maximise recovery and minimise ore loss and dilution
- Produce geological and geotechnical maps and logs for use in grade control and mine planning
- Provide sectional interpretation of grade control data and produce polygon and wireframe models
- Design and supervise blast vector monitoring
- Liaise with the Process Foreman, mine engineer production and provide stockpile management to optimise the blend into the Process Plant
- Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports on ore block and bench reconciliation, pit geology and grade drivers
- Communicate geological, geotechnical and grade information to site technical, management and contract personnel to assist with mine planning and in achieving production targets
- Adhere to site and department safe work procedures.
- Work to achieve department environmental objectives
- Maintain discipline in geology field crews
- Strive to instil a safety culture in Pit Technicians and other pit personnel especially working around heavy equipment and high walls
- Supervise and train Pit Technicians in dilution control practises
- Resolve dilution or ore loss issues with the mining contractor representatives
- Collaborate with the exploration staff to increase resources at each deposit
- Monitor & report QAQC, report issue to the Chief Mine Geologist
- Reporting on a regular basis and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge / Skills
& Competencies: |
- A high degree of computer literacy i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc
- A sound understanding of data validation processes & databases
- A sound understanding of ore-forming processes and geological mapping
- A high level of geological mapping skills
- Sound understanding of dilution control methods and theory

Training / Education requirements: |
- Minimum BSc. Geology or Applied Geology
|
Experience required: |
- +7 yrs industry experience (Essential)
- Experience with gold and/or open pit mining (Desirable)
- Exposure to Datamine and Datashed (or similar) software (Essential)
- Possess a valid drivers license

- French (Fluent), English (High to Fluent), Bambara (Fluent)
