JOB DESCRIPTION

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been working in Mali since 2013. From our bases in Gao, Timbuktu, Mopti, and Menaka, NRC strives to meet the needs of people affected by violence and displacement through our Education, Shelter, Food Security and Legal Assistance programs. We also have a program dedicated to the rapid response mechanism , a Protection project and a Humanitarian Mediation.

The NRC Education program aims to ensure that children and youth affected by displacement enjoy quality education that is relevant to their psychosocial, emotional and cognitive development, across all phases of displacement. The response will be focused on the support to formal basic education, first phase education response, alternative education and youth education and training.

The purpose of the Education Project Manager position is to implement delegated education project portfolio.

Duties & Responsabilities :

  • Contribute to the development of Country, Area and CC strategies, initiate and participate in the development of relevant CC projects
  • Coordinate and manage Education project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements
  • Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Area Manager and the CC Specialist
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Develop and manage project budget (in cooperation with Cs) and coordinate across CCs
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
  • Provide regular progress reports  to the Area Manager and the education Specialist
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Develop and manage education project budget
  • Represent NRC in sectorial coordination, education cluster/working group – area level
  • Initiate and develop the donor reports
  • Contribute for the CC programmatic inputs to the contingency plan

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years of experience from a senior level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Technical Education expertise
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in French both written and verbal and English is an asset,
  • Knowledge of the context in Mali centre (Mopti and Tombouctou regions)
  • Experience in working with local and international partners
