Summary: The U.S. Mission in Bamako is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (A/POSHO) The work schedule for this position is full Time (number of hours per week – e.g. 40 hours per week) Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Duties: Incumbent serves as the Safety Program Coordinator/Compliance Officer with responsibility for assisting the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO) in carrying out the day to day functions of the Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Fire Protection Division (FIR) programs at post as required by 15FAM. Conducts numerous safety surveys, prepares reports and conducts follow up inspections to ensure compliance. Assist the Facility Manager in providing training to all facility maintenance staff on areas of safety and safe practices. Acts as the Post Fire warden. Reports to the Senior Facility Manager.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Requirements:

Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in the maintenance field performing/coordinating repairs for large facilities, or in the field of occupational safety, health and environmental management is required (this includes experience as an industrial hygienist).

Job knowledge: Must be able to read and interpret Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHEM), Occupational Safety and Health   Administration (OSHA) and OBO/FIR manuals, FAM citations and other written materials. Must be able to read and interpret building and floor plans for large facilities.

Evaluations:

Language: Level 4 (fluent) speaking/reading/writing English is required and Level 3 (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing French is required.

Skills and abilities: Required to actively plan at least three months ahead (quarterly) and take initiative to research problems and find innovative solutions where there is limited funding. Ability to use computer office specialized office software Integrated Management System (ILMS), Word, Excel and Power Point. Must be able to maintain filing system related to safety and fire inspections; must be able to draft correspondence suitable for Embassy reading. A valid driver’s license is required, and basic numerical skills and basic typing skills are required.

Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
