SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN-12 – 61,821 US $ per year (the pay scale is denominated in US dollars but will be paid in local currencies using the exchange rate each pay period)
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR) FP-3 – US$ 80,362 per year
*Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for a Senior Technical Advisor position in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
As part of its global health mission, CDC is tasked with implementing programs to protect and improve health globally through science, policy, partnership and evidence-based public health action through CDC Mali. The vision of the Global Health Division (CGH) in CDC is a world where people live healthier, safer and longer lives.  CDC CGH is a proud partner in the unified U.S. Government (USG) effort to implement health programs. As part of this effort, CDC CGH helps resource-constrained countries to prevent infectious diseases and to detect and to respond to disease outbreaks through building capacity and infrastructure to address global health threats including disease epidemics and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. To facilitate this mission, CDC CGH assigns field staff to various country program offices.
The primary objective is to provide technical assistance in managing CGH capacity building programs supported by CDC/Mali.  The incumbent is a senior interface between CDC CGH/Atlanta, CDC Mali, the Ministry of Health (MOH), and various in-country public health partners including the World Health Organization (WHO) providing continuous technical assistance and overseeing and coordinating CDC in-country technical activities, including infectious disease epidemiology, surveillance, public health programming, and epidemic preparedness and response activities.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.
Doctoral degree (MD, PHD) or host country equivalent in public health, specializing in epidemiology, surveillance is required.
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible public health or clinical experience in the evaluation of public health interventions and/or disease surveillance in West Africa is required.  Two years in a supervisory position for either clinical, research or program settings demonstrating management experience for technical staff, accounts receivable and cash management.
Professional training and extensive knowledge in infectious epidemiology are required.
English Level IV French and English are required (English language proficiency will be tested.)
Deep knowledge of USG and Mali public health programs and strategies, medical systems, program management policies and regulation, principles and practices of epidemiological, biomedical, or related scientific research.  Must keep current with broad and rapidly evolving field of knowledge of public health and epidemiology through review of informational respected journals and websites required.
Advanced knowledge for word processing and Excel spreadsheets required.

Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
Current OR employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
