SALARY:  *Ordinary Resident (OR): $61,821 per year (the pay scale
is denominated in US dollars but will be paid in local
currencies, using the exchange rate each pay period.

The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking an individual for the position of Physician in the Medical Unit section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent will serve as the Locally Employed Staff (LES) Medical Practitioner responsible for providing medical services (i.e. diagnosis and treatment of patients) to employees and dependents of Direct-hire American employees of Mission Bamako that are eligible for health unit services.  This may include referral of more complicated cases/situations to appropriate outside resources. The incumbent will assist in providing medical guidance to other members of the HU staff and perform other professional duties not involving patient care such as medication ordering and medical education.  The incumbent reports to the Regional Medical Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Doctorate in Medicine and at least one year of Primary Care Internship from a recognized US, Canadian or Western Medical School; and/or MD with at least one year of Primary Care Internship and acceptable practice experience and references as reviewed and approved by the RMO is required.
Two years of clinical experience, post-doctorate education is required
Level III English and French (Good working knowledge)  is required. English will be tested.
Must have a sound knowledge of appropriation and accounting procedures and practices related to Government, non-government, international organizations.
Good working knowledge of local medical system and facilities.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizens Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S Veterans are given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy. 
Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
