The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking two (2) Gardeners in the Facility Maintenance Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The Incumbent performs general gardening services by planting, maintaining gardens and lawns in the Embassy and associated agency residential and office buildings.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for:
Planting, maintaining gardens and lawns at the New Embassy Compound and other Mission owned/leased buildings, including offices and residences of principal officials;
Preparing, fertilizing, cultivating soil; and watering gardens, lawns;
Transplanting trees, flowering plants, perennial and annual flowers;
Potting flowers for in/outdoor displays and directing the work of laborers assigned to assist him/her;
Responding to after hour emergency calls as needed.
Being aware of sound safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Completion of elementary school.
Six months to one year of gardening experience.
English I, French I and Bambara level I
Ability to plant and care for plants and flowers
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizens Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S Veterans are given preference.  Therefore it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy. 
Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
