Malian Junior Technical Officer to capture Wetlands International’s expertise on ecosystem-based approaches to sustainable livelihood development, WASH, DRR & CCA and wetlands management in Mali

Background
Wetlands International is the only global not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and restoration of wetlands. Through a network of specialist groups and individual associate experts, we mobilise up to date, best available knowledge on wetlands issues in which we are active. We work at field level to develop knowledge, and use practical experience to advocate for better policies. One of the areas in which we aim to have impact is the Inner Niger Delta in Mali. In recent years various projects has been implemented in this context by Wetlands International Mali with partner organisations. These projects combine various integrated approaches to wetlands use, management and restoration (IWRM, Integrated Natural Resources Management, ecosystem services approach) as to contribute to sustainable livelihood development and WASH, community-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) and to facilitate land use and water allocation planning
Responsibilities and tasks
The Junior Technical Officer will:
Provide technical backstopping to on-going projects
Develop inventory and evaluation plan to assess the “on the ground proof” of Wetlands International’s approaches in Mali
Visit field projects and interact with project beneficiaries and partner organisations
Analyse inventoried information and develop various communication-materials
Support network and resources development
Profile & Requirements
Malian Nationality
Not more than 8 years job experience and not more than 4 years relevant job experience
Fluent in French, English and local Mali language and good writing skills
MSc-level degree in environmental sciences (hydrology, IWRM, ecology) preferably with focus on science-policy interface,
Being able to connect community-level needs and capacities and the implementation of local interventions to higher-scale water and natural resources management strategies and policies
Culturally sensitive and being able to operate at both grass-root level and at regional/national levels
Having operated in an international organisational setting and/or received advanced education in an international context (outside Mali)
Offer
2 year contract with gross salary of max 652Euro per month

Build knowledge and experience on ecosystem-based DRR and CCA, IWRM-issues mostly focusing on relationship between water allocations and wetlands ecosystem services functioning 
Receive coaching and training for an (international) career from Wetlands International and YEP Bureau in the Netherlands (see www.yepwater.com).  
Participation in 3-weeks YEP Water training course in the Netherlands in June 2014
