SALARY: FP-7: US$39,994 p.a. (Full-time starting salary) FP-6: US$44,737 p.a. (Full-time starting salary)
The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking an Eligible Family Member (A/EFM) for employment in country for the position of Consular Assistant (with Consular Associate designation, when applicable) in the Consular Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Under the supervision, direction and guidance of the Consular Chief, this position is responsible for carrying out the full range of consular services, including American citizen services, non-immigrant visas, and refugee/asylee processing. The incumbent will provide biometric services for Non-immigrant Visa (NIV) applicants. In addition, the incumbent will conduct document reviews to ensure completeness for NIV, Passport and Certificate of Registration of Birth Abroad applications. This position may also assist in Welfare and Whereabouts and other American Citizen Services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
Eligible Family member
U.S. High school diploma or foreign country equivalency.
Two years of experience minimum in office and clerical work.
Level 2 Speaking, 1 Reading/Writing French is required. Level 4 (Fluency) Speaking/Reading/Writing English.
Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to exercise tact in dealing with colleagues and the public.
Ability to work under pressure
Full 26-day Consular Training Course completed at FSI/NFATC for Consular Associate candidates.
SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
3. The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a secret level security clearance.
