SALARY:*Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): US$39,994 p.a (starting salary Position grade: FP-7 to be confirmed by Washington)
*Ordinary Resident: CFA 4,542,995 per annum (Starting salary before benefits and allowances) Position grade: FSN-7

The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking an individual for the position of Administrative Assistant at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent provides administrative assistance and support to the administrative and executive departments of the NIAID Research Support Office.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advises and assists the staff in the area of office management. Arranges appointments and maintains supervisor’s calendars, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls and answers queries with discretion.
In charge of protocol matters which includes arranging meetings with high-ranking officials and representatives of counterpart organizations (Ministries, University of Bamako, NGOs, etc) and arranges official receptions.
Prepares informal translations and may act as interpreter.
Prepares correspondence, special reports, evaluations and justifications as required on general administrative or specialized tasks that may be of confidential nature within assigned area of responsibility. Ensures follow-up to all administrative correspondences.
Maintains policy, confidential, personnel and general management files.
Keeps lists of names, addresses and telephone numbers of ministers, government and NGO officials and members of the U.S and other diplomatic corps.
Other tasks, as determined by the Supervisor on as needed basis. Maintains and operates a petty cash funds for the NIH office in Mali in conformity with the established rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Secondary level education is required.
At least four years of experience in secretarial work is required.
Level III English (English will be tested), and level IV French and Bambara are required.
Must be computer literate with accurate typing in English and French at minimum speed of 40 wpm. Must have the ability to develop and maintain worksheets and databases using Excel and other programs.
Knowledge of office management and the ability to maintain an orderly office and office records.
Must have good interpersonal skills and must be able to work long hours under pressure.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizens Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
