Position : Health and Nutrition Program Team Leader

General description of position :
The Save the Children Sahel Country Office (Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso) has a history of over 25 years of successful health programming, focusing on Improved impacts in health and nutrition for children in need.
Working primarily with child, newborn and maternal health programs, the Health and Nutrition Program Team Leader (HNPTL) provides technical and program development support to ensure that Sahel health programs meet best practice standards and donor requirements, Each health project manager or equivalent that is responsible for project execution. Project mangers need a variety of support (technical, managerial, organizational), depending on their own skills and capacities and the workload at any given time.
The HNPTL will devote his/her time to support the overall health portfolio, Including Saving Newborn Lives, the President’s Malaria Initiative community case management program, the Korean government funded KOICA program, as well as other Health and Nutrition Program in Mali and Guinea. This position reports to the Deputy Country Director for Programs, and supervises, in coordination withh the country director, all health project managers. The HNPTL will travel up to 50% of his/her time outside of the Bamako office visiting project sites and facilitating in strategically important meetings
Qualifications and skills
• Medical Doctor (MD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent
• Demonstrated skills and achievements in program management and implementation (including at least 5 years at senior level in a developing country, preerably in the region) ;
• Strong background in operations research, monitoring and evaluation, report writing and training (required) ;
• A proven track record of engaging in policy and advocacy dialogues with demonstrated success ;
• Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English and French (non negotiable) ;
• Advanced computer literacy, including skills in MS Office, Epilnfo, SPSS, or other pertinent applications ;
• At least elght years in progressive management responsibility of child survival, newborn health, nutrition or other relevant program areas ;
• Advanced famillarity with monitoring and evaluation of programs, including designing of indicators and monitoring tools, in accordance with internationally recognized standards
• High degree of initiative and demonstrated ability to work effectively and autonomously with a multi-faceted team at national and international levels (required) ;
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (required)
• Strong financial management and donor compliance skills, especially with USAID, Gates Foundation and United Nations supported programs (required)
• Demonstrated track of mobilizing resources from public and private donors (required) ;
• Demonstrated achievements in program implementation working with national staff and other partners ;
• Experience in state of the art community health strategies including community case management, IMCI, essential newborn care, and others related to community based primary health care ;
• Demonstrated ability to work with multiple partner organizations with varying levels of capacity (public and private sector, and civil soclety at national, regional and community levels) ;
• Experience in developing and implementing Health Information Systems
• Flexibility and patience ;
• Strong representational and networking skills ;
• Wilingness to travel extensively (often on short notice) within West Africa and occasionally beyond to support programs, attend conferences and give presentations.
