Position: Underground Resources Geologist
Reports to: Head of Underground
Department:  Mining
Job Grade: 
Location: Yanfolila, Mali

 

Principal Job Objectives: The Resource Geologist is also in charge of the geological database and will act as database administrator for the mining department as well as running back to back with the Grade Control Geologist when the incumbent is on rotational leave.
Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Roles and responsibilities include geological interpretation, resource estimation, resource modelling, as well as development planning.

·        Validate interpretative and analytical data as received.

·        Oversee and verify models and interpretations built by junior Geologists and / or consultants.

·        Update or create 3D litho-structural models and mineralized models if required

·        Conduct extensive QA/QC monitoring to ensure data and interpretations are accurate

·        Manage all information related to the resource, ensuring assays, composites, densities, and related information are accurate and validated.

·        Monitor regulatory compliance with respect to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates.

·        Review data integrity and quality during each drilling phase and ensure effective communication is maintained with all relevant team members.

·        Produce and validate block models and other parameters as required.

·        Collaborate with the Engineering, Exploration, and Environment teams to coordinate all aspects of the geological resource and reserve processes pertaining to all aspects of the project.

·        Recommend updates or changes to the resource modelling processes to improve quality and efficiency and ensure any modifications are consistently implemented and documented

·        Liaise with database providers such as Datamine, Surpac, and Leapfrog etc. or acquire to maintain SL Mining data integrity.

·        Work hand in hand with IT department to solve mining related applications problems.

·        Promote and develop the skills of subordinates through the transfer of technology and skill development through on-the-job training programs.

·        Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related departments.

·        Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.

·        Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.

·        Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures

·        Ensure hazard management plans are observed.

·        Active participation to the Health & Safety Committee.

Knowledge / Skills
& Competencies:
  • Advanced knowledge of Surpac or similar software, in particular the 3D modelling and resource calculation aspects.
  • Strong 3D interpretation and geostatistical modelling skills.
  • Strong skills in MS Office, Database (MS-SQL and Access), and map making software applications.
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow and maintain accurate, detailed documentation and policies
  • A proven track record in mining operations as well as exploration experience.
  • Experience in a developing country with a preference for West African experience.
  • English language and technical reports skills are desirable.
  • Demonstrates strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Training / Education requirements:
  • Advanced degree / certificate in Geology or similar
  • GEOVIA Surpac.
  • Leapfrog Geo Fundamentals.
  • Leapfrog Edge Fundamentals.
  • Datamine
  • Experience in Gold mines, both Surface Open Pit and Underground
Experience required:
  • Minimum seven (5) years’ work experience in Operations or Exploration including at least 3 years in resource modelling.
Language requirement: English
