WaterAid is an International Non Governmental Organisation dedicated exclusively to the provision of sate domestic water and effective sanitation to the world’s poorest people. With its headquarters in London, WaterAid currently operates in 17 countries.
WaterAid’s programme in Mali began in 2000 and it now works with seven local organisations providing water, higiene and sanitation support to communities in five regions of the country. WaterAid Mali wishes to recruit a Country Representative to manage the affairs ont the country programme.
Based in Bamako and reporting to the regional manager, West Africa (based in London) you will ultimately be responsable for all aspects of WaterAid’s Country Programme in Mali.
The Country Programme involves support to local government and NGO partners ensuring the effective implementation of sustainable water supply, sanitation and hygiene projects under the Country strategy. It also engages in research, learning and advocacy aimed at addressing the root causes of poor people’s lack of access to water and sanitation services. This field-based research contributes to the national policy work led by the WaterAid programme which focuses on monitoring the effectiveness of expenditure in the water and sanitation sector and the impact it has on poverty in the country.
As WaterAid’s representative in Mali, you will manage a wide range of external relationships at the national level, including, those with local partners, international donors and multilateral institutions. You will ensure the WaterAid’s programmes first and foremost engage in activities which focus on issues relevant to poor people, but which are also informed by the relevant national issues in the sector and are consistent with WaterAid’s overail corporate strategy and approach.
As a graduate with at least five years senior programme management experience in Africa you will have signifiant expertise in community-based development projects, preferably in the hygiene, sanitation and water sectors. You will be a strong leader, have excellent communication and team management skills and have the ability to think clearly and strategically. The length of contract offered will be four years, renewable. A competitive salary and benefit package will be offered.
