The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is seeking an individual for the position of Generator Technician in the Facility Maintenance Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The incumbent performs skill level auto-mechanic work and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of all diesel engines. 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for:
Installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing diesel generator and truck engines to include complete engine overhauls and minor repairs as well as oil filter changes.
Keeping a complete record of problems/repairs for each generator engine. 
Initiating parts requests and making recommendations as to acquisition/disposal of diesel generators.
Performing, repairing and ensuring maintenance to pumps, hydraulic systems, fans, gates and other mechanical equipments.
Responding to after hour emergency calls as needed.
Exercising sound safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Junior High School degree required and vocational training or apprenticeship in an institution producing journeyman skills required and four years of generator technician experience OR 11 years of generator technician experience required.
English I (Rudimentary), French and Bambara II (Limited knowledge) required.
Familiarity with full journeyman mechanic established practices in the specific trade involved required.
Ability to use the tools of the trade.
Must have a valid Malian driver’s license.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizens Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S Veterans are given preference.  Therefore it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy. 
Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
