The International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is one of the 15 Centers funded through the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). 

ICRISAT has obtained a grant from the European Union to finance the implementation of the action « Improving Crop Productivity and Climate Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in Mali (APSAN-Mali) » and seeks an accountant for the project. The position is in the category of NRS (Nationally Recruited Staff Band A) and the contract is offered for an initial period of 2 years with possibility of renewal, subject to a regular probationary period and based on a satisfactory performance and fund availability.

The Job:

Under the overall supervision of the project Coordinator, the functional and direct supervision of Chief Accountant, the incumbent will perform the following but not limited duties:

  • Provide day-to-day operational support to project activities
  • Prepare the financial and operational activities of the project to ensure timely delivery of the necessary inputs and the timely implementation of activities
  • in accordance with the planned work plans of the project and field activity plans
  • Monitor budget lines and ensure a daily follow up the expenses rates
  • Perform the implementation of effective financial flow management mechanisms and ensure  the timely availability of resources for the successful execution of activities defined by the Chief Accountant including the preparation and submission of the funds requests
  • Ensure coordination and communication with the respective administrative units for implementation of project activities in a timely manner
  • Ensure timely submission of project budget reports
  • Submit a monthly report and the situation of the partners to the supervisor
  • Ensure a follow up of the signed contracts signed in the framework of the project and the submission of partner reports monitoring of the liquidations and
  • Collaborate closely with the purchasing department to ensure compliance with the acquiring procedures of the funder and assets management
  • Assist in the preparation/revision of budgets.
  • Ensure any other tasks assigned for the position or by the supervisor and perform other related duties as required. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Bac +4 in Accounting/finance, project management or equivalent;
  • Strong knowledge and high skills of IT tools and accounting software/Finance
  • Fluency in both French and English
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and peers
  • A Knowledge of project management procedures financed by the European Union would be an asset
  • Ability to work under pressure and experienced working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience preferably in an International organization.
