ICRISAT’s West and Central Africa Office, based in Bamako, Mali, is seeking for candidate to fill the position of Scientific Officer (Pathology) to support its Groundnut Research Program for West and Central Africa based in Bamako, Mali. The Position is a full time position, based at ICRISAT’s Bamako office. The Scientific officer will work to improve the efficiency of the Pathology Program and oversee research and training activities.
Under the overall supervision of the ICRISAT Pathologist, the Duties and responsibilities of the Scientific Officer will be to:
Coordinate the implementation of pathology trials with collaborators and partners, including on-farm and on-station activities focused on groundnut pathology in selected countries in the region. This will include communication with partners, responding to partner requests, ensuring seed availability for trials, among others;
Take responsibility for data collection, undertaking preliminary analysis, tabulation of results and preparation of reports for the Pathology Program to various end-users, including to development partners;
Maintain field books and manage data retrieval and storage related to trials being conducted in the region;
Prepare, manage and store inoculum for the implementation of pathology trials, including for aflatoxin, Early and Late Leaf spot and Groundnut rosette disease;
Oversee /supervise field staff involved in pathology activities;
Oversee activities in the pathology laboratory, including ensuring safety protocols and standards for all users;
Assist with development and improvement of training materials based on the needs of partners and clients;
Oversee the implementation of bilateral projects under the Pathology Program,;
Assist in training of staff of collaborating and partner organisations as well as farmers  based on their needs and requirements;
Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Pathologist
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, in field of Pathology. A Master’s degree (MSc) in Pathology will be required
Knowledge of on-station and on-farm pathology trial design, implementation, data observation and analysis, computing and reporting is essential;
Knowledge in Experimental Design and Statistic is essential
Experience with microbiology techniques for the preparation, maintenance and deployment of plant disease (including aflatoxin) inoculum;
Experience with ELISA-based approaches will be an added advantage;
Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the country and spend long hours in the laboratory or field;
