ICRISAT is seeking applications for the position of Capacity Development and Communication Expert to lead the implementation and monitoring of a livestock technology scaling program in the regions of Sikasso, Mopti and Timbuktu of Mali under the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) program.  

ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals’ alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases. www.ilri.org

As part of the Mali Feed The Future livestock value chain component – Livestock for growth in household incomes, nutrition and for national gross domestic product growth -, ILRI is leading a program entitled Feed the Future Mali Livestock Technology Scaling Program or FTF-MLTS.   The overarching goal of the program is to contribute to the inclusive growth in ruminant livestock value chain for increased income, food and nutrition security through the scaling up of productivity enhancing technologies among ruminant livestock keepers and other value chains actors in the Mali regions of Mopti, Timbuktu and Sikasso.

Responsibilities                                                                                                                             

The Communication Officer will perform the following tasks under the direction of Program Manager:

Communication

  • Ensure effective communications, visibility and knowledge management within the program and to external audience;
  • Develop, implement and monitor a communication and visibility plan to facilitate better understanding among partners and donors about ILRI as an organization and program progress;
  • Undertake filed visits to gather the information and results related to the program;
  • Develop visibility material such as leaflets, monthly newsletter, update on website, share stories with HQ for special events.
  • Maintain and update collaborators’ contacts information and coordinates distribution of materials and information;
  • Organizes media presence, video recording and photography of program events.
  •  Assist in translation of documents from English to French and/or from French to English

Reporting

  • With input from partners, technical team and Program Manager, help produce high quality program progress reports as per donors and ILRI requirements
  • Provide high quality editing and formatting for all program related documents;
  • Support program staff in organizing and managing seminars, workshops, press conferences and field visits as required;
  • Provide relevant expert services to the program and implementing partners on reporting and communications and act as a facilitator or trainer;
  • Provide through progress reporting continuous analysis of the achievements, facilitate project review and evaluation;
  • Develop donors reporting date and requirements template
  • Other duties as needed 

Requirements

  • A Master degree in any relevant field;
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience in the area of communication and reporting;
  • Extensive experience in communication and diffusion strategies and techniques, reporting, documentation, publication, and audio-visual material preparation in relation to development fields;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and speaking skills in both English and French;
  • Well versed in the latest electronic publishing and graphics methods
  • Justifying an experience in website content management;
  • Ability to plan and implement activities systematically to meet deadlines, review plans periodically and evaluate results;                    
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment and to be an effective team player;
  • Ability to interact positively and maintain good relations with ILRI and ICRISAT staff as well as partners/collaborators;

This is a nationally recruited position. ILRI offers a competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience. The appointment will be for a period of one year, inclusive three months’ probation, with a possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.

The duty station will be at ILRI office located at ICRISAT-Bamako Research Station in Samanko, Mali.
