ICRISAT is seeking applications for the position of a Country Technology Transfer Consultant to support TAAT scaling work in Mali for the Livestock compact of the newly launched “Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation” (TAAT) project under the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) program.  

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

TAAT is a key priority of the African Development Bank’s agricultural transformation agenda also known as the Feed Africa Strategy. TAAT is essentially a knowledge-and innovation-based response to the recognized need for scaling up proven technologies across Africa aiming to boost productivity, and to make Africa self-sufficient in key commodities. ILRI leads the Livestock compact of TAAT.

The position: ILRI is recruiting a consultant to support TAAT scaling work in Mali. The TAAT scaling consultant will report to the TAAT Livestock Compact Coordinator and will be overseen by the ILRI Country Representative.

Main Duties 

  • In consultation with implementing partners, plan TAAT Livestock Compact (Small Ruminant) value chain interventions;
  • Make arrangements with development partners for (joint) implementation of small ruminant value chain development interventions;
  • Provide technical support for implementation of development interventions;
  • Organize service providers and value chain actor linkages in support of small ruminant value chain development in Mali;
  • Develop capacity of livestock value chain actors and service providers in approaches and value chain interventions through in-service and on the job training;
  • Manages all activities including organizing and hosting workshops, presentations, field trips and meetings with and for relevant stakeholders and project partners; and
  • Coordinating and reporting scaling activities to regional and national partners
  • Support the project’s M&E system;
  • Other duties that may be assigned by supervisor(s) 

Education

  • MSc degree in a relevant field

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in livestock research and/or development
  • Experience in capacity building

Skills

  • Broad knowledge of agriculture
  • Understanding of value chain concepts, and how to scale up livestock technologies
  • Fluency in spoken and written French language, Good English writing skills a plus
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good communication and partnership skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

Duty Station: Bamako

Terms of Appointment: This is a Consultant position, initial appointment is for six months with the possibility of renewal for another six months, contingent upon individual performance and continued project needs.
