Terms of reference for Scientific Officer  – Sorghum breeding (seed producion and on-farm testing)
Tasks:
– coordinate on-farm, farmer participatory variety evaluations with national research and farmer organizations and other development partners
– coordinate seed production with seed roducction partners, assure appropriate training and monitoring
– collect and collate data from on-farm trials, and seed production activities.
– analyse date, and assist with preparing reports for feedback discussions with farmers and to donor agencies
– adapt experimental protocols to specific partners’ needs, prepare Bambara or facilitate translations into other local languages
– assist with the development and refinement of training materials for farmers, and technical staff
– maintain and develop partnerships with sorghum producers or processor organizations
Skills requirements:
– at least 10 years of experience with sorghum research
– extensive experience with managing on-farm, farmer participatory experimentation with varieties and agronomic practices
– experience in using excel, genstat and word
– capacity to write technical reports and prepare graphs from experimental results
– capacity to interact constructively with farmers, and encourage their curiosity and innovations
– read and write Bambara
– ing agr with at least 10 years experience, or advanced degree
– English language added advantage
