The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Mali wishes to recruit for the following position:
Title: Finance Assistant
Level: GS-6 (General Services)
Type of Appointment: Temporary Appointment (TA)
Duration: 364 days
Duty Station : Bamako, Mali

I. PURPOSE OF THE POST
Under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer, serves as assistant with responsibility for accounts maintenance and budget control functions of the office.
II. MAJOR TASKS
– Maintains ledgers and accounting records for classification and recording of financial transactions and for the reconciliation of accounts. Prepares recurring of special reports ;
– Prepares payment requests of invoices, travel and MIP claims for staff members and partners;
– Calculates and pays salaries, allowances and other entitlements to staff members, consultants, vendors and other claimants;
– Controls and liquidates DCT;
– Preparation of financial data for budget estimates and financial planning;
– Maintaining liaison with officials of local banks and financial institutions to obtain day to day information on exchange and interest rates, changes in procedures and regulations, and matters pertaining to maintenance of office bank accounts;
– Keeps in file all transactions with local banks;
– Daily follows up of invoices by verifying, recording and making them certified and approved by authorized staff;
– Updates and maintains necessary information in monthly payments orders (MPO) for international staff in monitoring personal phone bills, use of official vehicle of official accounting receipts and justifications.
III. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE
Education

– Completion of secondary education;
– Ability to operate calculator or other machines used to maintain accounts;
– Additional commercial training in accounting or finance is desirable.
Experience : One to two years’ experience, including progressively responsible work in finance and accounting activities.
Language(s): Fluency in French and good working knowledge of English required.
Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
