The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Mali, wishes to recruit a candidate for the following position:
Title : Programme Assistant
Level : GS 5 (General Services of the UN System)

I. PURPOSE OF THE POST
Provide clerical and administrative support to the Protection section. This includes collecting information, maintaining records, preparing documentation and correspondence pertaining to programme activities.
II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Collects data and other information on development and/or subject-matter activities of the country or area;
· Maintains, logs, files and updates records in prescribed format for subsequent use;
· Processes and examines the information and data in accordance with instructions received, making necessary abstracts and computations;
· Maintains and keeps current registers and control plans on the status of projects at the formulation, implementation and operational stages;
· Prepares background material, working papers and tables for briefing and review sessions;
· Summarizes information reflecting current obligations and future programme and/or budgetary implications;
· May be required to carry out specific operational/control tasks for programme/project implementation.
III. QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
1.) Education : Completion of secondary education. University level courses an asset.
2.) Experience: Five years of office experience, including record-keeping and processing of information or equivalent in higher education studies and some relevant experience. Experience in an international organization is an asset.
3.) Language(s) : Fluency in French and working knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of the local language is also required.
4.) Other Competencies
· Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form;
· Ability to work harmoniously in a team;
· Proven ability to plan and synchronize events and activities;
· Good knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc…);
· Good organizational skills;
· Proven ability to initiate actions and follow through execution.
