Title : Operations Manager (Yatela)
Description : To plan, direct and co-ordinate the operations of the business unit to maximize the production of safe, profitable gold cost effectively, environmentally responsibly and in compliance with legislation in the country.
Location : Yatela Gold Mine, Mali
Qualifications Required : Relevant tertiary mining industry qualification (e.g. Degree or Diploma in Geology, Mining Engineering, Engineering or Metallurgy)
Experience Required : 10 years relevant mining industry experience with 5 years at senior management level
• Heap leach experience will be an advantage
Role and Responsibility : To achieve business strategies, objectives and targets safely and cost effectively within a responsibly managed environment (physical & social) by directing and co-coordinating the various departmental units within the operation to maximize stakeholder returns
• To continue to develop saving initiatives in order to control operating and capital costs, to achieve business objectives and budgets, and to improve the production capacity and the gold recovery in order to maximise revenue generation
• To maintain and effectively manage good Industrial Relations with our partners, contractors and stakeholders with the aim to conduct business more efficiently and effectively
• To effectively manage Human Resources by ensuring that the operations departments are adequately staffed to achieve the set goals for the operation and have succession plans in place to ensure sustainability
• To develop the operations team both professionally and personally by managing individual performance, providing relevant training, having communication systems in place and encouraging participation in social and community projects
• To co-ordinate the development of the Business Unit Plan with an acceptable level of risk legally, technically and economically to optimize mineral resource utilization and profit and ensure sustainability with a product replacement strategy
• To ensure production goals are achieved in line with business objectives and budgets for the mine by optimizing mineral resource utilisation, short term planning and ore extraction processes
• To co-ordinate Project Management for the operation to achieve set targets and desired quality implementation
• To ensure that the operation performs at a level that meets the Safety, Health and Environmental objectives of the business
• To enable the business to continue to grow through planned development strategies
Additional Information : Knowledge of mineral resource evaluation, mining, mine planning, extractive metallurgy and business principles (structures, planning and budgeting).Systems and standards (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001). Production scheduling. Financial data analysis. Project and contract management. Understanding of relevant computer software (MS Office and mine planning software such as Datamine and XPAC).

Remuneration : The successful candidate will be appointed on an expatriate 2 year contract, which may be renewed after the 2 year period, and regular leave breaks will apply. A US Dollar denominated salary will be offered.
