Duties

This position is the working team leader of the electricians working in the Facilities (FAC) Section of US Embassy Bamako and provides overall work guidance to New Embassy Compound (NEC) electricians in the operations, maintenance and repairs of electrical systems and equipment in the compound and other USG-owned facilities.  Functions as a subject matter expert and resource for all NEC electrical related issues and problems.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:  Requires a minimum of at least 3 years of progressively responsible experiences in the operations and maintenance of electrical repairs in industry or the commercial environment.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Must read and understand blueprints, sketches, electrical schematic diagrams, required trade manuals, equipment operation and maintenance manuals, and electrical and mechanical code books.  Must know procedures about working on medium and low voltage electrical systems and transformers.

Education Requirements:
Completion of high school (or host nation equivalent) is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:

English: Limited Knowledge of English – Reasonable confident in speaking English and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms.

This may be tested.

French or Bambara: Good Working Knowledge – Good vocabulary and understanding of grammar and able to construct sentences. Able to use French or Bambara as part of normal work duties including having conversations with customers and answer questions.

This may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to use the tools of the trade, power equipment such as threaders, conduit benders, drills; must be able to work at elevated heights or from an aerial work platform.  Must be able to use electrical testing equipment such as ohmmeters, meg-ohm meters, and other electrical component testing equipment. Must have held a valid driver’s license for at least 5 years, and able to drive a motor vehicle.
