The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week)

Duties

Provides administrative and translation services to the Defense Attaché Office at Post, and occasionally performs driver duties. Assists other Attachés and support staff as required. Translates and interprets in English, French and Bambara when mission dictates. Drafts and translates unclassified official correspondence in both, English and French. Assist and coordinates directly with DATT’s visa referrals for host country armed forces personnel, greets and assists visitors, prepares Attachés invitations and maintains distribution list, makes car/hotel reservations for the Defense Attaché Office (DAO)/Temporary Duty (TDY)/visitors, maintain files, social calendar for DATT and other Attachés. Assists support staff with Aircraft and Personnel Automated Clearance System (APACS) and personnel clearances. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:  Three years of prior work experience performing administrative duties including English/French/Bambara translation work.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Good knowledge of host country military, political, economic, and social structures and protocol; institutions; historical background; and key personnel. Administrative duties; filing, typing, etc.

Education Requirements:
Two years of College/University studies is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:

English: Good Working Knowledge – Good vocabulary and understanding of grammar and able to construct sentences. Able to use English as part of normal work duties including having conversations with customers and answer questions.

This may be tested.

French and BambaraFluent – Able to use the language fluently and accurately, making only minor errors of pronunciation and grammar.  Able to conduct all work in French and Bambara.  Almost as proficient in French and Bambara as in your native language.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be proficient in English and French to permit error-free translations. Must deal effectively with public and guest of this office. Able to cultivate and maintain access to personnel contacts at all levels of the national, region, provincial, and local governments. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years. Proficient user of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
